About Flora Deva Apothecary

Flora Deva Apothecary is a sensory botanical ritual house founded by Jill A. Frandsen in Santa Barbara, California.

Its roots reach back nearly three decades to Jill’s early work with flowers, herbs, flower essences, and botanical preparations. What began as Majik Flowers later became FloraDeva Flowers, and over time evolved into Flora Deva Apothecary.

The name has changed as the work has grown, but the relationship at its center has remained remarkably consistent: curiosity about plants, the places they inhabit, and the ways human beings experience them.

Today, Flora Deva brings together flower essences, botanical perfumery, herbal teas and preparations, aromatic waters, and other small-batch botanical creations. Each is an invitation to experience the living world through scent, taste, touch, observation, and ritual.

Meet the Founder

Jill A. Frandsen is the founder and creative director of Flora Deva Apothecary.

A Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist by profession, Jill has spent decades observing people, patterns, relationships, and the conditions that support growth. Alongside this work has been an equally enduring relationship with plants.

From her early work with flowers and flower essences to botanical formulation, perfumery, and field observation, Jill’s interests have continued to converge around a simple question:

What can we learn when we observe living systems closely?

Rather than viewing plants simply as ingredients, she approaches them as living expressions of place, season, history, and relationship.

Her home landscape of California’s Central Coast provides an ongoing field of observation—from coastal bluffs and oak woodlands to chaparral, gardens, canyons, and native plant communities.

A Living Apothecary

Flora Deva is rooted in the belief that plants are more than ingredients.

They are participants in landscapes, seasons, histories, and relationships.

A flower essence offers one way of listening.
An herb offers another.
A botanical perfume creates atmosphere.
A cup of tea creates a pause.
A field note preserves an observation.

Together, these form a living apothecary—one that values curiosity over certainty, relationship over remedy, and attentive presence over promises of transformation.

What We Create

The Flora Deva Apothecary includes:

  • Flower essences
  • Botanical perfumes
  • Herbal teas
  • Aromatic waters and botanical mists
  • Herbal oils, salves, and preparations
  • Seasonal and small-batch botanical creations

Formulations may bring together flowers, herbs, aromatics, essences, extracts, and traditional botanical preparations.

The intention is not simply to make products from plants, but to preserve something of the relationship from which each creation emerged.

The Flora Deva Field Library

The same spirit of observation extends beyond the apothecary into the Flora Deva Field Library—an evolving collection of Field Notes, Field Guides, botanical observations, human ecology, and stories from the living world.

The Field Library reflects a naturalist’s approach:

Observe first.
Remain curious.
Understand before intervening.

It is a place for documenting plants and people not as isolated subjects, but as participants in larger living systems.

Nearly Three Decades of Botanical Relationship

From Majik Flowers, to FloraDeva Flowers, to the present-day Flora Deva Apothecary, the work has continued to evolve.

What began with flowers has expanded into an exploration of botanical relationship, place, fragrance, ritual, observation, and the ways human life remains connected to the larger living world.

Flora Deva continues to grow in that spirit.

Observe closely.
Stay curious.
Enter into relationship with the living world.

Nature’s tools for living.
